How to exclude WKO4 data from being stored in iCloud in Mac OS

Athletes and workouts can disappear from WKO4 when using iCloud Drive in macOS Sierra and newer OS versions. If you're missing athletes, workouts, or charts, you're likely seeing the result of iCloud processes. In order for WKO4 to work properly, you must move WKO4 to another location that is not under Documents, such as "/Users/<yourname>/WKO4" or "/Users/<yourname>/Local Documents/WKO4".

How to install WKO4 without using iCloud
When you install WKO4, the default location for the data set is "/Users/<yourname>/Documents/WKO4". To keep WKO4 out of iCloud, when you get to the "Choose a Data Folder Location" screen of the setup wizard, click the "..." button and choose another location, such as "/Users/<yourname>/WKO4" or "/Users/<yourname>/Local Documents/WKO4".
How to move existing WKO4 data out of iCloud
If your data has already been moved to iCloud, here's how to get it back. These directions also apply to moving data out of other cloud syncing services, such as Dropbox or OneDrive.
First we need to turn off syncing of the files in order to get back the files that were already moved to iCloud (in other words, deleted from your local hard drive). If you skip this step and go straight to moving WKO4, you'll be moving it without all your files. After you move the WKO4 folder to a folder not managed by iCloud (in other words, out of Documents), you can turn iCloud syncing back on.
  1. Open System Preferences and select iCloud.
  2. Deselect Desktop & Documents Folders at the top of the iCloud Drive window (under Documents).
  3. Deselect Optimize Mac Storage at the bottom of the iCloud Drive window.
  4. Click Done. This turns off the syncing of the files.

Now let's move your WKO4 data to a local location.

  1. Exit WKO4.
  2. Using Finder, navigate to your data store location (probably in Documents), right-click the folder named WKO4, and click Copy. Do not "cut" the folder or move it out of its current location.
  3. Create a backup copy of your data by navigating to the Desktop and pasting (right-click > Paste Item) a copy of the WKO4 folder.
  4. Navigate to the local folder in which you'd like to store your WKO4 data and paste (right-click > Paste Item) a second copy of the WKO4 folder. Two location options we recommend are "/Users/<yourname>" or "/Users/<yourname>/Local Documents".
  5. Run WKO4.
  6. Open Preferences from the WKO4 menu or from the gear wheel at the top right of the screen.
  7. Click the "..." by the "Data store location" field and select the new location where you copied the WKO4 folder (not the backup folder on your desktop). If you took our recommendations, it will be either "/Users/<yourname>/WKO4" or "/Users/<yourname>/Local Documents/WKO4".
  8. Exit WKO4.
  9. Using Finder, navigate to Documents and rename the original folder from "/Users/<yourname>/Documents/WKO4" to "/Users/<yourname>/Documents/WKO4.DELETEME".
  10. Run WKO4 and make sure everything looks great. This is very important!
  11. If everything in WKO4 looks correct, in Finder delete the folder "/Users/<yourname>/Documents/WKO4.DELETEME".

You can now turn iCloud syncing back on if you wish to do so.
