How and Why to Recalculate Workout Metrics

Recalculate a workout file on your TrainingPeaks calendar if the initial workout calculations were wrong, the file parsed improperly, or you want to undo file edit.

When to Recalculate Your Workout File

When TrainingPeaks receives a workout file it calculates metrics using an athlete's threshold (either power, heart rate, or pace depending on the sport type) set in account settings.  The most common reasons to recalculate your workout file are:

  1. You don't see workout summary data or time in zones.
  2. You've updated your threshold(s) and need to recalculate workouts files based on your new threshold(s).
  3. You uploaded a bike file as a 'race' and the power calculations were not run (You will need to change sport type to 'bike' before recalculating).

Sometimes after making edits in the workout file you might want to start from scratch and reupload the file.

  1. On your TrainingPeaks calendar, click on the workout you want to recalculate.
  2. Click 'File'
  3. Click Download.  A pop-up window will appear. Select where you want to save the file.  Save it.  Make sure it actually saved in that location.
  4. Delete the file in the Quick View by clicking the 'delete' button.
  5. The file will download zipped. Unzip the file.
  6. Drag the file back to the TrainingPeaks calendar.
  7. The file will upload automatically.
