TrainingPeaks Virtual utilizes natural weather elements to both increase immersion when riding indoors and to introduce gameplay that elicits more dynamic racing.
Wind
TrainingPeaks Virtual’s use of wind deliberately helps create dynamic racing, introducing an element that may affect how individuals approach each race, and to slow down groups to enable more interesting racing dynamics on the road. If a breakaway is willing to work into the headwind, but the front of the chasing group is not, the breakaway will likely extend their gap.
In the Trainer Resistance section of this guide, you’ll find how the wind affects your smart trainer. If you ride to the front of the group in a headwind, you’ll feel it.
Wind speed and direction can be found within the upper right map window alongside draft, and current road gradient. The wind speed will change and can gust. Riding along the oceanside can present great opportunities to attack in the crosswinds!
Weather
There are currently three types of weather in-game: Clear, Raining, and Snowing.
At present, rain and snow do not impact rolling resistance or tire grip which affects the maximum speed in corners. These weather events serve to add intrigue to the graphics only. Maybe the snow will help you feel a little cooler while you’re dripping sweat in your basement!
