Broadcasting heart rate (HR) data from your Apple Watch to TrainingPeaks Virtual (Virtual) requires using an external app, such as the Echo Heart Rate app, as a bridge, since the Apple Watch cannot broadcast HR via Bluetooth directly.
Connect ECHO and Virtual
- Download the ECHO app from the App Store onto both your iPhone and your Apple Watch
-
Open the ECHO app on iPhone and tap to set up
- ECHO will prompt to select Target. For TrainingPeaksVirtual, scroll down and choose the All Other Gear option. Press Connect to Bluetooth and manually type in “TrainingPeaksVirtual”
-
The warning informs that Echo cannot broadcast to a training app running on the same iPhone. You must run TrainingPeaks Virtual on a separate device (e.g., Mac, PC, or tablet)
-
-
Grant Permissions: allow ECHO access to your Apple Health data when prompted.
-
You can also grant permissions from your Apple Watch
-
-
On your phone, tap to enable Bluetooth if prompted
-
Once Bluetooth is enabled, tap to start in the ECHO app
- Pair in Virtual
- Open the Virtual app, go to Pairing Equipment
-
ECHO HR should be visible (it should locate the ECHO signal) just like any other Bluetooth HRM device
- Once connected, click OK and start your session
-
Begin your workout in Virtual, and the HR data from your Apple Watch will be received via the ECHO app
-
Please note:
- Same device limitation: Echo cannot broadcast to a training app running on the same iPhone. You must run TrainingPeaks Virtual on a separate device (e.g., Mac, PC, or tablet).
