Find the minimum specifications required on TrainingPeaks Virtual for cycling equipment, internet speeds, and computers below.
Cycling Equipment
TrainingPeaks Virtual has been designed to support the widest possible range of indoor cycling equipment over the Bluetooth Low Energy or ANT+ protocols:
- All BLE FTMS Trainers.
- Tacx NEO (original, 2 and 2T) Trainers.
- Wahoo Direct Connect Trainers (both WiFi and Wired connections).
- All BLE CyclingPower Powermeters.
- All BLE CSC Cadence Sensors.
- All BLE HeartRate HRMs.
- All ANT+ compatible equipment (Trainers, Powermeters, Cadence Sensors and HRMs)
By default, TrainingPeaks Virtual will always use your smart trainer as a primary power source. If you do not have a smart trainer, you can still use TrainingPeaks Virtual with just a power meter, but some features that require a smart trainer (for example, changing resistance with terrain or workouts) will not be available.
Internet Speeds
TrainingPeaks Virtual has been designed to run on the widest possible range of home internet speeds.
- For most situations when riding around the virtual world, it only requires an internet connection with an average bandwidth of around 5 kbps (less than 1kB/s).
- A faster connection is only needed when there are very large numbers of riders nearby (such as at the start of a major race with many hundreds, or thousands, of riders taking part), when usage increases to around 50 kbps (less than 10 kB/s).
If you find that you cannot connect to TrainingPeaks Virtual's servers at all, you may need to explicitly grant permission on your computer / mobile device/internet router to allow this. If you are using an anti-virus scanner or firewall, please add TrainingPeaks Virtual as a trusted application, and permit access to the internet using UDP Port 7777, and TCP Port 7777.
Computers
TrainingPeaks Virtual has been designed to run on the widest possible range of desktop and laptop computers. You can adjust a variety of in-game settings to increase or decrease the quality of the graphics to suit the capabilities of your computer. On minimum settings, it runs successfully on 10+ year old laptops (albeit at a relatively low frame rate), but if you have modern hardware TrainingPeaks Virtual also supports 4k displays at 120 fps.
In general, the performance of TrainingPeaks Virtual depends mostly on your graphics card – anything from the last 5 years should run well.
The absolute minimum specifications are based on just the operating system:
- Windows 10 64-bit
- MacOS 10.13.0 (High Sierra).
Note that the Mac release of TrainingPeaks Virtual is designed for both Intel chipsets and Apple silicon. If your Mac supports the Metal API, TrainingPeaks Virtual uses this for hardware-accelerated graphics.
Mobile
While TrainingPeaks Virtual will work on any mobile device, we recommend using mobile devices with a minimum of 3.5 GB RAM for the best experience.
